We are on the lookout for a talented Production & Technical Manager to guide all technical, production, and backstage activities at our iconic venue.
This position is essential within our small yet dedicated team, as it focuses on ensuring that technical, production, and backstage operations run smoothly and professionally during performances and various venue hires. You will also be in charge of overseeing the upkeep and development of all our technical systems.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
In this dynamic role, you will:
- Lead all technical operations, including lighting, audio, audiovisual (AV) systems, staging, rigging, and fly systems.
- Maintain and enhance the venue's technical systems, ensure proper documentation, and keep an inventory of equipment.
- Plan and execute productions, events, and venue hires from a technical and production standpoint.
- Analyze technical riders and offer practical, safe, and innovative solutions to meet production needs.
- Organize production schedules, manage staffing, create rosters, and allocate resources effectively.
- Supervise and mentor casual technical staff, fostering an environment of learning and development.
- Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments, and safe working procedures.
- Cultivate strong relationships with hirers, presenters, educational institutions, contractors, and suppliers.
- Oversee technical budgets, maintenance tasks, and any necessary capital upgrades.
- Contribute to organizational planning and promote collaboration within the department.
With a compact core team, this role is hands-on, requiring you to be actively involved in troubleshooting technical issues, supporting live shows, and addressing venue-related matters as they arise.
Who Are You?
You should possess:
- Proven experience in technical and production management within a performing arts context.
- Robust operational knowledge covering lighting, audio, AV, rigging, and staging.
- Familiarity with power loading practices, ETC Eos Nomad systems, counterweight fly systems, and rigging scenery.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing technical teams and coordinating casual crew schedules.
- Outstanding communication abilities and skills in engaging with stakeholders.
- Confidence in interpreting technical riders and managing complex productions efficiently.
- A thorough understanding of theatre-specific OH&S standards.
- Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred qualifications may include certifications in Test & Tag, Working at Heights, rigging, as well as experience with mixing consoles such as Allen & Heath, Midas, or Yamaha.
